Before filling the reservoir, place the drain plug cap or stopper in its external drain opening and seat it fully so the opening is sealed. For many portable countertop ice makers, the drain is on the bottom or lower back of the unit, but the exact location and closure design vary by model. Do not leave the cap inside the ice basket, loose in the reservoir, or stored separately during operation.

The drain closure stays installed while you fill the machine and make ice. Remove it only when your model's instructions call for draining the reservoir.

Find the Drain Opening and the Matching Closure

Fingertip points to the drain opening on the underside while the matching stopper sits on the counter.

Set the unplugged ice maker upright on a stable, level surface and look for a small drain point around the lower exterior of the cabinet. It is commonly located underneath the unit or toward the rear, although your model's parts diagram is the best guide.

The loose piece may be:

  • A removable rubber or silicone-style stopper
  • A cap that presses into an opening
  • Another model-specific drain closure shown in the manual

Drain plugs are not standardized between countertop ice makers. Use the closure that came with your unit and matches the illustrated drain opening; do not assume a similar-looking plug from another appliance will fit.

If you are unsure which part is the drain closure, compare the loose piece with the parts diagram in your owner's manual before adding water.

Seat the Cap Before Filling the Reservoir

Fingers press a rubber cap flush into the drain opening on the lower rear of the ice maker.

A drain opening is meant to be sealed during normal use. If the closure is missing or not seated properly, water can escape from the reservoir rather than remain available for ice making.

Use this quick pre-fill sequence:

  1. Keep the unit unplugged while handling the drain closure.
  2. Locate the exterior drain opening on the bottom or lower rear area identified in the manual.
  3. Check that the opening and the closure are clear and that the cap appears to match the opening.
  4. Press or fit the closure into place until it is fully seated and flush. Do not force it.
  5. Confirm that it feels secure before filling the water reservoir.

The cap belongs in the drain opening---not in the water reservoir or a separate storage location. Once it is properly seated, leave it in place for filling and the first ice-making cycle.

If the cap arrived detached, that alone does not mean it should remain off the machine. Fit it into the designated drain opening first. If it does not match the manual illustration or cannot be securely fitted, do not fill the reservoir.

Complete the Rest of First-Use Setup

User pours water into the ice maker reservoir while the seated drain cap remains visible below.

With the drain closure secured, follow your model's first-use instructions in order.

Position the Ice Maker Correctly

Keep the appliance upright and provide the ventilation clearance specified in its manual. Avoid placing a countertop ice maker in a tight cabinet or enclosed nook unless the manual permits that installation.

If the unit may have been transported on its side, let it stand upright for the period required by its manual before connecting power. Guidance can vary by model and transport condition; first-use waiting guidance for countertop ice makers explains why the manual's timing should take priority.

Clean, Fill, and Start

Clean the ice maker before its first use, using only the method approved for your model. Initial setup guidance may also call for draining the reservoir before cleaning accessible or removable parts.

After cleaning:

  • Reinstall the drain cap securely.
  • Fill the reservoir only to its marked maximum level.
  • Follow the manual's instructions for starting the first cycle.
  • Check whether your manual directs you to discard the first batch or batches of ice after startup. Euhomy's first-use cleaning guidance notes that initial ice may need to be discarded, but your model manual determines the exact instruction.

Pre-Fill Checklist

Before adding water, confirm that:

  • The ice maker is upright, stable, and positioned with the required ventilation clearance.
  • The correct drain plug cap or stopper is fully seated in the exterior drain opening.
  • The closure is not loose, damaged, or mismatched with the manual illustration.
  • You have followed the manual's first-use cleaning and upright-rest instructions.
  • You will fill only to the reservoir's marked limit.

With the drain closure secured and the first-use instructions confirmed, fill the reservoir to the marked limit and begin the first cycle. If the closure does not match the manual or cannot be fitted securely, do not fill the reservoir; consult official Euhomy model support.
